Make sure that your walls are well prepared before you begin
papering. Highly polished/metallic papers tend to show up
every defect so good preparation is the key. Fill any holes
and sand the walls though- roughly.
Before you begin papering, apply a thin, watery layer of
wallpaper paste to the surface. This is called sizing and
will ensure that the initial process of papering is made
easier and will also help to adhere the lining paper very
securely to the prepared wall. Then leave to dry.
Double line the walls using a heavy gauge lining paper.
Begin by lining the walls vertically, making sure that the
first length is level. Allow a thin, hair width gap between
each length.
Once this first layer has dried, finish with a second
layer of lining paper, but this time go across the wall
horizontally. Again allow a thin hair width gap between each
length.
This process of double lining will ensure the very
soundest of surfaces on which to hang your designer wall
paper and will give the best results possible. |
